Welcome to the Manchester Video Game Music Jam Session (MCR VGM Jam) webpage!
Based in the northwest of England, MCR VGM Jam aims to bring together the community of local musicians interested in video game music and improvisation.
MCR VGM Jam is supported by ShowUP Music, a local creative community, as well as by Bouzouki By Night, a local Greek restaurant where we host our jams.
Jams are free to attend so please consider making a donation on the door or online!

Prior to the date of the jam, I will create a set list, taking into consideration everybody's song requests.
I'll share this set list with everyone and also send out lead sheets (sheet music with the melody and chords) for every piece.
On the day of the jam, whoever arrives first and is ready to play will start the jam.
We will have a house band comprising some excellent musicians who will be more than happy to backup any less confident players.
Depending on how many people attend, I will ask musicians to rotate between pieces to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to play.
I expect a maximum of seven people playing at a time. That will comprise a maximum of three instrumentalists, piano / keys, guitar, bass, and drums.
Before each piece, anyone who wants to take a solo can put themselves forward.
If multiple people want to solo, an order of solos will be worked out. I'll suggest a length for the solos (i.e. 8 bars or 16 bars, etc.).

You do not need to print sheet music or bring a tablet. I will print out enough lead sheets for everyone.
If you have a tablet that you would like to bring, that would be helpful.
If you have a specific piece you would like to play, either let me know beforehand or print some sheet music (at least one lead sheet in C, Bb, Eb, and C bass).

Instrumentalists (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, etc.) should bring their instruments. If you have a clip-on microphone, that would be good to bring.
Piano / keyboard players do not need to bring anything unless they would like to play something like a melodica or EWI.
Guitar and bass players should bring their own guitars. We may be able to lend one electric guitar for the jam. Due to potential space limitations, I would suggest not bringing your own amp as we will have amps setup already.
Drummers should just bring their own sticks and percussionists should bring whatever percussion they want to play.
